Acting for Musical Theatre explores the history and evolution of musical theatre and more deeply explores the syntheses of vocal performance with acting techniques.

Expectations and Goals: By the end of the course, the student will:

  • Develop the self-confidence to speak and/or perform before a live audience
  • Learn and display Musical Theatre terminology
  • Discover, Define, and Discuss the acting techniques involved with musical theatre performance
  • Apply acting techniques to the performance of varying genres and styles of musical theatre repertoire
  • Select, Rehearse, Memorize, and Perform a solo number and/or 1-2 audition songs

Frenchie Davis is a world-renowned vocalist, musical theatre performer, and college professor. She is originally from Los Angeles, California, and a graduate of Howard University. Her theatrical credits include the Broadway cast of RENTDreamgirlsCinderella EnchantedJesus Christ SuperstarLittle Shop of Horrors, and the national tour of Ain’t Misbehavin’, for which she earned a Grammy Award nomination. Television credits include Wanda Sykes’ Herlarious and voice over work for the hit Nickelodeon cartoon Wonder Pets. An outspoken advocate for art education in Black, Brown, and LGBTQIA+ communities, Frenchie continues to wow audiences with her unique and versatile talent and keeps them in stitches with her unapologetically witty outlook on life.
